JDP libraries still offering online services
Although all parish libraries have had to close the doors, online services are still being provided.
“It hurts our hearts having to close the doors in such a way,” said Director Clare Coleman. “We are truly sorry for this inconvenience.”
That does not mean that residents have to go without reading materials.
“Our library offers free online resources such as e-Books, audiobooks, music and movies through OverDrive (Libby), Hoopla and Tumblebooks,” Coleman said. “If you don’t already have a library card, call your local library so they can issue you an e-Card that will give you instant access to these resources, at no charge.”
Library staff is still available to answer questions by phone from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
“During this time, if you have any questions or information needs, please call us,” said Coleman. “We are here to help to the best of our ability and will strive to maintain a balance of service and safety.”
The library staff will be primarily working from home so material pick up can not be offered during this time.
“Library fines will not be charged for any overdue items but you may return items in our book drops,” she said. “Items are not available for pick up or reserve at this time.”
Another service offered is Homework Louisiana, which provides free onlinetutoring, test prep and job search assistance to eligible library card holders statewide.
“Homework Louisiana has expanded their live tutoring hours to provide additional support for students in our communities impacted by COVID-19,” said Coleman. “The new Louisiana one-too-ne live tutoring hours are from 8 a.m. until midnight, Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday tutoring will continue as 2 p.m. to midnight. These expanded hours will be available until May 31.”
Homework Louisiana is free and provided by the State Library and Jeff Davis Parish Library. The link to the page is http://lalibcon.state.lib.la.us/schools.php.
Coleman said all branches will remain closed until further notice but they will continue to post updates on the library’s Facebook page as things progress.
