Most requirements waived for academic year
The superintendent of Jeff Davis schools said Tuesday night that there are "indications from the state" that the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year could be canceled altogether.
Kirk Credeur told school board members that policy waivers are now in place for all Louisiana schools. He said this means requirements for school performance scores, early childhood performance profiles, district performance scores, teacher observations and evaluations, value added model scores, graduation, mandatory instructional minutes, industry-based credentials, End of Course exams for graduating seniors and promotional requirements for grades four and eight have all been waived for the 2019-2020 school year.
In addition, the state is asking for federal approval that would excuse Louisiana students from LEAP testing for this year.
As of Wednesday at press time, Credeur said the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education had not provided any official guidance on how to determine final grades for the current school year. However, he said the central office is working on a backup plan to calculate grades in case such a plan is needed.
