HIGH EXPECTATIONS
CLEMSON, S.C. – Former Jennings High standout and career rushing record holder and current Clemson Tiger Travis Etienne Jr. received big news this preseason when his name was popped up on the Maxwell Award List released recently. The award is given annually to the top player in college football for the past 82 years. Etienne has been mentioned among the best backs in the country, while also finding his name listed on several Heisman Trophy watch lists as well.
After finishing his record-breaking career at Jennings High in 2016, Etienne set the college football world on fire last season by turning in one of the best freshman season’s in Clemson football history. The former 3-sport star rushed for 720 yards in his freshman campaign at Clemson, while also setting the freshman record for touchdowns at the school. Etienne averaged 7.16 yards per carry in 2017, which ranked him fourth in school history.
As a freshman, Etienne landed on the All-ACC Team and also earned Academic All-ACC in the process. At Jennings, Etienne earned 3A All-State honors three times, while twice being named the team’s Outstanding Offensive Player. Etienne was also a 3-time All-District, All-SWLA and All-Parish selection, while gathering MVP honors for all 3 teams several times.
Etienne and his Tigers are set to open the regular season on Sep. 1 at home against Furman after coming off a season where Clemson made an appearance in the College Football Playoff at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
