Jessie Irma Keith Moore, 96, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, March 24, 2018, in Baton Rouge.
A memorial service will be held in May at St. James Place, 333 Lee Drive, Baton Rouge.
Interment was held Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary.
Irma was a resident of the St. James Place community for the past 17 years. Irma was born on Feb. 25, 1922 in Hopkinton, Iowa, to mother Inez McCourt Keith and father Seward Clay Keith. She graduated from Hopkinton High School, received an associate degree from Lenox Junior College, a B.S. from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a M.S. from the University of Arkansas. Irma was proud veteran of the U.S. Navy WAVES, serving in Oakland, Calif., and Hawaii during World War II. She was also involved in the Red Stick Waves. After a brief stint in education, Irma worked for more than 20 years in state service including serving as supervisor of the Jefferson Davis Parish child welfare office in Jennings.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother Thomas Grant Keith; her husband Louie Alfred Moore Jr.; and daughter-in-law Judy Aguillard Moore.
She is survived by children Sharon Elaine Moore of Astoria, N.Y., Barbara (Michael) Richard of Pineville, Paul Keith Moore of Baton Rouge and Robert Allen (Jacqui) Moore of Roanoke. Irma had six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
