JDSO to residents: Receive updated info through NIXLE OEP
The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Department would like to remind residents of the text alert system, NIXLE OEP.
“NIXLE OEP is a free emergency notification and information service feature that provides up-to-date alerts through text updates and we encourage everyone to add the feature to their cell phones,” said Sheriff Ivy Woods. “To access NIXLE emergency updates, text JDPSO to 888777.”
Users can also visit www.nixle.com and follow the sign-up prompts. Regular emergency updates during any conditions will then be sent to that mobile device from that point on, he said.
“For those who have purchased a new phone since initial registration, the device may need to be reset to allow the service to reboot,” said the sheriff.
Woods said that the information provided by the service is one of the quickest ways to receive reliable information regarding emergency situations that are affecting the parish.
“It’s important for people to sign up for NIXLE OEP updates so they are able to stay informed quickly on any current emergencies,” said Woods. “The alert system is the primary source of communication for all upcoming emergency weather conditions.”
Woods said helping the community to be well informed in a timely manner is a priority for the agency, not just for the safety of people and property but also for peace of mind.
The alert system provides an easy, no hassle form of communication that provides weather and traffic updates.
The department urges everyone to take action ahead of the storm to ensure the safety of those in the affected areas.
“As long as we are in the projected cone of the hurricane, we recommend that the public takes all necessary precautions to prepare for an emergency,” said Woods. “Residents should stock up on water, medications, fuel in vehicles and make arrangements for the elderly, infirmed and pets.”
