LA to hold Juneteenth Celebration, Community Fun Day
LAKE ARTHUR - The community is invited to attend a celebration in honor of Juneteenth on Saturday, June 22.
Organizer Caroline Charles said the event will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park in Lake Arthur. The park is located at the corner of Sixth Street and G.C. Chaney Avenue.
Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery on June 19, 1865, in the United States and has been celebrated since the end of the Civil War.
Charles said the event is free and everyone is invited to take part in the family fun.
“Anyone is welcome to come out and join us for a good time,” she said.
She said music and games will provide entertainment.
“We will play bingo with great prizes to be awarded along with basketball and other games,” she said. “The event is sponsored by members of the community, who donate their time, food and money to make the event possible.”
She said there will be plenty of cooking taking place on the day of the event.
Fried fish, fried chicken wings, hot dogs, hamburgers and other goodies will be served, free of charge to those who would like to attend, she said.
Charles reminds that no glass containers will be allowed in the park. She said this rule will be strictly enforced and the Lake Arthur Police Department will be called regarding any violations of this rule.
This is the fourteenth year the Town of Lake Arthur has hosted the annual event.
“It’s a day to celebrate our freedoms and have good, family fun,” she said. For more information, Charles can be reached at
