Movie screening to benefit Leader in Me
The public will have the chance to learn about an American icon as well as have the chance to support future icons during a free screening of the movie “Harriet” Feb. 29.
J-Town has sponsored a free movie night at the Strand Theatre on Main Street in Jennings but financial donations will be accepted at the door. Those donations will directly benefit the Leader in Me Program at James Ward Elementary School.
The Leader in Me Program is a process used to teach leadership skills to youngsters. It is based off Dr. Steven Covey’s book, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
The Feb. 29 movie “Harriet” tells the story of freedom fighter Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and her work in helping form and operate the Underground Railroad, which provided paths to freedom for hundreds.
The movie boasts a cast including Cynthia Erivo as Harriet, Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monae, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Vondie Curtis Hall and Jennifer Nettles.
The movie will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, and is open to the public. Concessions will be sold.
