Albert was born Sept. 21,1924, in Lake Charles to Euric Lafleur of Chataignier and Ella Rougeau of Basile. His formative years as a child and adolescent were mainly spent in Basile with his mother, Sister Beatrice and stepfather Alvin “Abine” Victorian.
Albert met the love of his life, Rose Arceneaux Lafleur, in Elton, which is quite near his childhood home of Basile.
Albert and Rose were married in the state of Louisiana in 1940, a union that lasted over 53 years until Rose’s transition on July 1994. Albert Lafleur never remarried after the passing of his one and only wife. Albert and Rose Lafleur had a total of four children from their Christian marriage union: one son, Albert Lafleur, Jr., and three daughters, Joan Lafleur, Gloria McZeal and Sandra Murray. His two surviving children are Gloria McZeal (Glen) of Lafayette and Sandra Murray (Willie) of Houston, Texas.
Albert Lafleur enjoyed being a grandfather to his five grandchildren, Andrea Lafleur, Bonita Williams, Noni Southall, Jason Murray and Eric Lafleur (deceased). Albert also enjoyed his eight great-grandchildren and a number of great great-grandchildren. Albert has one surviving aunt, Jesse Reder, of Lake Charles.
Albert was an usher at his local Christian church for a number of years. Albert was also a member of the Knights of Peter Claver for a total of 66 years, where he served in various positions and offices. After 50 years of faithful membership in the Knights of Peter Claver, Albert received an award for his service. Albert enjoyed and spoke often of his attendance at Christian retreats which occurred yearly. His Friday evenings were generally spent in Adoration service at the local church.
Albert began his work career at an early age working with family members in the timber industry. Albert grew up after World War I and during the Great Depression. These world and local events shaped his work ethic at a young age. “Pop,” as family would call him, often talked about the work projects of that era and beyond in which he worked on railroad projects at Hunt Oil Tool and at the local rice mill. His career journey was completed at Jeff Davis Electric Co-Op (REA) in Jennings where he retired at the age of 70.
When Albert “Pop” was not at work or serving at his local church, he was oftentimes found in the pasture taking care of his livestock. His first venture into raising livestock began with pig farming and he eventually moved on to raising cattle. He continued in his cattle rearing activities well into his 80s, even after his retirement from Jeff Davis Co-Op.
Albert is preceded in death by his wife, Rose Lafleur; son Albert Lafleur, Jr.; daughter Joan Lafleur; Eric Lafleur; mother Ella Rougeau; father Euric Lafleur; stepfather Alvin Victorian; grandmother Eva Frank; grandfather Gustuave Lafleur; grandmother Susan Gradney; grandfather Artemon Rougeau and sister Beatrice Guidry.
