Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at Our Lady of the Rosary, located at 3368 Esplanade Ave. in New Orleans.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
She was born in Lafayette on Sept. 4, 1939, to the late William Albert Atwood and Ethel Domas Atwood.
An active parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, she served in many capacities from the Altar Society making altar cloths to the St. Vincent Guild helping brides as a wedding coordinator to rolling meatballs and baking for so many school fairs, bingo nights and Friday fish fries.
She was secretary of the Rose Petals Circle 16 of the Missionaries of St. Therese. Billie Jo enjoyed the fellowship at St. Dominic Monday Night Rosary. She also volunteered at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
Known particularly for her desserts and traditional New Orleans fare, when asked for restaurant recommendations from friends traveling to the city, her children would simply respond, “Our house.”
The joy of her life was watching her three children enjoy each other’s company — laughing, eating, drinking and sharing adventures.
Her grandchildren meant everything to Billie Jo. She never missed a ride on the City Park train or carousel, a trip to the zoo, aquarium or insectarium, and exploring the Children’s Museum or World War II Museum. We will think of her with every meal, every toast and every trip.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John J. Meyer, the one and only love of her life; son William Gregory Meyer and sister, Wanda June Marcantel.
Billie Jo is survived by her daughters, Tania Meyer Wilson (Randy) and Allison Leigh Meyer (Tim Heater); son William Andrew Meyer; grandchildren Elizabeth “Biz” Wilson, Kendall Katherine Wilson and Jonah Patrick Heater.
