Charles, aged 83, passed away at home on Sept. 1 in the presence of his family. Charles, known to his family and friends by many names — including Bucky, Charlie and even “Unky Bunky” was born in Jennings. He grew up working on the family farm, tending to the livestock and his five siblings.
At Iota High School — class of 1959, Bucky played several sports (quarterback for the football team, point guard for basketball, track and field) and participated actively in the FFA. He attended LSU (saw the Billy Cannon touchdown run in 1959) and then McNeese State University, where — despite too many late-night card sessions — earned a degree in agribusiness.
While chaperoning a party, Charles met Charleen. They fell in love and soon married. Afterwards the couple moved to the east coast for Charles to begin basic training in the Army. He served for two years active duty before they returned to Louisiana. Charles worked in various roles for Shell Oil for nearly 30 years before retiring in the early 1990s.
Charleen and Charles settled in Iota to enjoy their retirement years to pursue their favorite activities including barbecuing, watching college sports, visiting with relatives and friends and traveling frequently. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and games. He served as treasurer at the Iota Methodist Church for many years.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Charleen; three sons, Charles III (Lety), Eric (Traci) and Seth (Shea); four grandchildren, Sean, Luke, Anabel and Ella; three sisters, Carolyn Precht Marks, Mary Beth Precht Tilley and Kayla Ruth Precht Fournerat; and one brother, James “Jimmy” Precht.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Sr. and Ruth Robertson Precht, brother Tom and brother-in-law, Roy Marks.
Pallbearers will be Charles D. Precht, III, Eric V. Precht, Seth H. Precht, Sean E. Precht, Luke E. Precht and Dale Trahan. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Harrington, Bruce Comeaux, James Tilley, Gerald Fournerat and James “Jimmy” Precht.
