Earl James McFarlain

Funeral services for Earl James McFarlain, 83, of Jennings were held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, with Pastor Josh Belt officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held at the funeral home Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, from 4-8 p.m. and resumed Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, from 10 a.m. until the time of his service at 2 p.m.

Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.

Earl James McFarlain was born in Jennings on Feb. 12, 1938, to Herman McFarlain and Winnie Sonnier McFarlain. He was called from this earthly life on Aug. 31, 2021.

Earl was the owner and operator of EZ Air & Heat. He loved to hunt and camp, listen to music and help people.

Earl’s greatest joys came from spending time with all his family. He was a kind and generous man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Earl is survived by his son, Earl McFarlain, Jr. (Shana Landry) of Jennings; his two stepsons, Bret Deshotel (Michelle) of Lafayette and John Allen Deshotel (Rachelle) of Houston, Texas; his three daughters, Dessie Simar Prejean (Wayne) of Jennings, Diane Trahan (Steve) of Iota and Celina Kay McFarlain of Jennings; his stepdaughter, Karen Ann Deshotel of Austin, Texas; his 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Winnie McFarlain; his wife, Zula McFarlain; and his stepson, Jerry Lee Deshotel, Jr.
