Frederick James Matthews
JENNINGS โ Frederick James Matthews, Jr., 67, of Jennings, passed away on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024 at Ochsner Lafayette General Hospital. Frederick was born on Oct. 29, 1957 in Lafayette to Fredrick James Matthews, Sr. and Loretta M. Beroid.
Frederick accepted Christ at an early age. In 1975, at age 17, Frederick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge in 1978. During his service in the Marine Corps, he earned the rank of Private First Class, the Rifle Marksman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. Later, Frederick worked as a chef in the offshore oil and gas industry for many years before retiring. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Frederick was preceded in death by his son, Akeem Ceasar; his maternal grandparents, Clarence Beriod and Ethel Beriod; his paternal grandmother, Estelle Matthews.
Frederick leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Kimberly M. Arceneaux of Lake Charles; his mother, Loretta M. Vital of Mermentau; his sister, Ethel A. Matthews of Jennings and half-sister, Charlotte L. Matthews; his grandchildren, Tylon J. White, Tyron Jamar Arceneaux and Dominick M. Hollier Jr; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024 in the Church Chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, 819 North State St. in Jennings. Visiting with family and friends will be in the Chapel from 9 a.m. until the time of Celebration Services. Burial will follow in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings at 12:30 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps.
