Gene Austin Alcock
Mr. Gene Austin Alcock, 89, of Jennings, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, with his beloved wife, Nanette, by his side.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Gene will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2024, in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Charles McMillin officiating. He will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
A gathering of friends of family will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. with the visitation closing at 8 p.m. It will resume Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and close at 9 a.m. for the procession to the church.
Gene was born in Jennings to his parents, Leon Merle Alcock and Arizona Noel Triplett Alcock, on August 27, 1935. He attended Jennings High School and was a Class of 1953 graduate. He then attended McNeese State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in education. During his 35 years in education, he taught mathematics at Lake Arthur High School; he was vice principal of Welsh High School; principal of Fenton High School and a Director of Auxiliary Services for the Jefferson Davis Parish school system. Before his teaching career began, he served in the USAF during the Korean conflict as a Staff Sergeant from 1953-1957. He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. Mr. Alcock loved the LSU Tigers and was a devoted fan.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Nanette Manuel Alcock; sons, Douglas (Denise) Alcock of Alexandria, Dwayne (Carla) Alcock of Jennings and Darren (Emily) Alcock of Lake Charles; sister, Betty N. Harrison; brother, Richard Alcock; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David Michael and Damien and his sisters, Leona Whiddon, Marguarite Campbell, Shirley Brown, Connie Girard, Elaine Green and Lucy Alcock.
