Gwendolyn Humbarger
JENNINGS—Gwendolyn Faye Gore Humbarger passed away peacefully on Feb. 15, 2024, surrounded by her family, at the age of 74.
Gwen graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana with a Bachelor’s Degree in English education, then later completed her master’s degree in English Literature. It was here that she met her husband of 53 years, George Douglas Humbarger. They had one child, Natasha Humbarger.
After moving to Jennings, she began teaching at Jennings High School where she taught English for 25 years. She received multiple awards for her teaching skills before her retirement.
Not only was she a remarklable teacher, but she also found an incredible joy in books. While she said she would never write her own book, she loved getting lost in the books of others. This love and enjoyment of reading was passed on to her daughter as well as her three granddaughters.
She will be happily reunited with her daughter Natasha Humbarger Kratzer, father Eugene Donovan Gore, mother Ethel Fontenot Gore Young and her sister Debbie Gore Decou. She is survived by her husband George Douglas Humbarger, her three granddaughters Francesca, Alexandra and Peyton Kratzer, her sister Elizabeth Gore LeJeune and sister-in-law Joanne Humbarger Fontenot. She will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
