Mr. Gotte died at 12:36 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, in Gueydan Memorial Guest House.
Mr. Gotte was a lifelong resident of Gotts Cove and recently moved to Elton. He was the press foreman at Jennings Daily News for years. Harvey was a simple man. He took pride in working hard, being a good provider, overcoming great odds and creating something beautiful from something basic. If he was making furniture or repairing a home, no detail was too small. He could escape when he worked in his garden, played with this fruit trees or rebuilt a tractor. He said that God was in those things, everywhere, and he didn’t need a building to find Him. Harvey’s true joy was his family—his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was theirs, too. He was a mighty man and he lives on in our hearts and memories.
Survivors include one daughter, Priscilla Gotte of Jennings; two sons, Harvey (Dana) Gotte, Jr. and David (Rebecca) Gotte, both of Jennings; two sisters, Jeanita Faul of Mamou and Carrie (Donald) Blackwell of Lafayette; sister-in-law, Wanda Gotte; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Estelle Duplantis Gotte; and one brother, Harold Gotte.
