Helen Mae Fontenot Benoit
Helen Mae Fontenot Benoit, 81, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019.
Services were held at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, at 1 p.m., with Father Alan Trouille officiating.
Visitation was held at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, from 4-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation resumed at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery.
She was born in Ville Platte and was raised in Lake Arthur. She was married to Andy Benoit, Sr., for 52 years prior to his death in 2007. Helen was a loving wife and mother who also had a strong faith. She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh and spent several years volunteering as a CCD teacher and with several church groups. She later spent several years volunteering in nursing facilities in Welsh and Jennings. She also supported numerous organizations over the years at Welsh schools and at McNeese State University.
She is survived by her son, Andy Benoit, Jr., of Greenwood, S.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Benoit, Sr; parents, Orise Fontenot and Venis Guillory Fontenot; and her siblings, Norbert “Quillis” Fontenot and Bernice Sonnier Cantrelle.
