Hubert Joseph Janise
Funeral services for Hubert Joseph Janise, 91, of Jennings will be held today, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Pradeep Gali officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home today, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of his service, with a rosary recited at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with Full Military Rites.
Hubert was born in Branch on Oct. 22, 1927, to John and Laura Breaux Janise. He was called from this earthly life by his Heavenly Father on Jan. 14, 2019. Hubert served his country honorably in the United States Army. He worked as a police officer for the Army in Alaska from 1951 to 1953, for the Jennings Police Department as a night chief from 1953 to 1960 and as a deputy for Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Department from 1960 to 1978. He enjoyed spending his free time working on tractors. He also loved to go fishing, but mostly he loved taking care of his grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Hubert is survived by his sons, Joseph (Bertha) Janise of Eunice and Mike (Mary Ann) Janise of Jennings; his daughters, Zula Ann (Glen) Istre of Gueydan and Rita (Darrell) Bergeaux of Iota; his brother, Chris Janise of Jennings; his 22 grandchildren; his 45 great-grandchildren; and his two great great-grandchildren.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laura Janise; his beloved wife, Zula Henry Janise; and his eight brothers and sisters.
Carrying Hubert to his final resting place will be Jonathan Hebert, Sidney Hebert, Dale Benoit, John Janise, Brandon Janise and Michael Hebert.
Honorary pallbearer will be Glen Istre, Sr.
