It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that our husband, father and friend, Jerry James Mayeux, passed away peacefully at home with the love of family surrounding him on Feb. 4, 2023.
A celebration of Jerry ‘s life will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home today, Thursday, from 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 12:30 p.m.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Jerry was born in Lafayette on April 6, 1934, to Arthur Joseph Mayeux and Jeanne Marie Broussard Mayeux.
Jerry was self-employed as a retail merchant and a great provider for his family. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran and former member of the Lions Club. He loved woodworking, gardening and reading in his spare time.
Jerry was a kind and generous man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jerrry is survived by his beloved, devoted wife of 63 years, Leona “Lee” Mary Mayeux of Jennings; his two daughters, Karen Miller (Nolan) of Jennings and Tina Mayeux of Lafayette and his son, Nicholas Mayeux (Patti) of Youngsville. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Katherine Miller (Kenneth Ulicny, MD), Matthews Miller, Tyler Mayeux-Picard (Richard Picard), Caleb, Amanda and Nick Sistrunk and five great-grandchildren, Joseph Ulicny MD, Alex Slaydon, Morgan Miller, Sarah Ulicny and Awan Brooks (Picard).
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jeanne Mayeux, and two brothers, Earl and Roy Mayeux.
