Joseph Anthony Alexander, Sr.
A Mass of Christian burial for Joseph Anthony Alexander, Sr., 76, of Jennings will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, at 11 a.m.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, from 8-11 a.m.
Burialwill follow in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery.
Joseph was born in Cecilia on March 30, 1944, to Percy Alexander, Sr., and Azema Ledet Alexander. He was called from this earthly life by his Heavenly Father on Jan. 21, 2021.
Joseph worked as a pipefitter for Leevac Shipyard for 47 years. He played softball for the Mermentau Raiders and was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver.
Joseph also enjoyed sitting on the porch and listening to music when he wasn’t watching football. He was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints.
Joseph’s greatest joy came from spending time with all his family and making memories with them. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce M. Alexander of Jennings; his daughters, Samantha Alexander, Shamira (Ashley) Lyons and Debra (Melvin) Adams, all of Jennings; his sons, Joseph Anthony (Terrell) Alexander, Jr., of Kansas City, Mo., Ronnie (Deborah) Alexander of Des Moines, Iowa, and Isaac Tyler, Jr., of Jennings; his brother, Shelton Alexander, Sr., of Breaux Bridge; his 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great great0-grandchildren; and two godchildren.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Azema Alexander, Sr.; his brothers, William, Relay, Percy, Jr., and Alton Alexander, Sr.; and two great great-grandchildren.
