Karl Lynn Lopez
Karl Lynn Lopez 66, of Youngsville passed away June 5, 2021, in a Houston hospital surrounded by his family.
The family will receive visitors today, Sunday, June 13, 2021, between 4-8 p.m. at University Baptist Church in Lake Charles. Visitation will resume Monday, June 14, 2021, at 9 a.m., with service to follow at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Nick Wolfe will officiate.
Burial will be in Bertrand Cemetery in Hathaway under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Karl retired in 2016 from Conoco/Phillips offshore division, where he was a top drilling superintendent after 41½ years with the company.
He was a member of The Buccaneers of Lake Charles since 1999, where he served on the board in several positions. He loved dressing in his pirate gear and handing out trinkets to the kids. He had the honor of being chosen as their 2019 Jean Lafitte and enjoyed every minute of it.
He was a member of the Mardi Gras krewes Krewe de Pirates and Krewe de la Maison de Calcasieu, where he was chosen to represent them as a Duke and later the honor of Captain.
He loved classic cars and drag raced in his younger years. After retirement, he acquired a 1972 Dodge Challenger and started entering it into car shows, where he won several awards.
Karl loved to travel and has been all around the world. He was a kind, wise man with an infectious smile and laugh. He would light up a room no matter where he was. He truly knew how to enjoy life.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janice Robinson Lopez; two sons, Kyle Lopez of Louisville, Ken., and Kasey (wife Lesley) Lopez of Youngsville, and one daughter, Kayley Lopez of Lafayette. He leaves behind one grandson, Kullen Lopez; one sister, Theresa (husband Richard) Lopez Foreman of Reeves; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elson (Boone) Lopez and Zelma Landry Lopez.
