Larry Allen Freyou

Larry Allen Freyou, 80, passed away on Jan. 29, 2022, after a short illness.

He was born on March 3, 1941 in Jennings to Lawrence Anthony and Lillian Allen Freyou.

Larry lived the majority of his life in Jennings. He graduated from Jennings High School in 1959. Larry earned Eagle Scout status with the Boy Scouts of America.

He was a member of the United States Air Force where he proudly served our country during the Vietnam War. He went on to receive his bachelor’s and later, his master’s degree, from McNeese University.

He resided in Texas for 17 years and was employed by LTV, where he was able to use his keen knowledge of computer science engineering. He returned to Jennings in 1984 to care for his mother. He enjoyed continuing his career there and became a computer science professor at SOWELA Technical College in Lake Charles.

The Freyou family home was an iconic presence in the City of Jennings. Freyou Flowers, the only flower shop in Jennings for years, was operated out of the Freyou home at 506 W. Academy Ave.

Larry lived the majority of his life in Jennings and called 506 W. Academy home during those years until his passing. Those who knew Larry would describe him as having a quiet, gentle spirit. You might have seen him gathered for breakfast with a group of friends any morning at any given breakfast spot in Jennings. He spent his free time and retired years tinkering, programming and building computers. He loved animals, which included his golden retriever, Sandy, and his many cats.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lillian.

Survivors include his son, Toby Freyou and wife, Terri, of Fort Worth; his brother, James Michael (Mickey) Freyou and wife, Sherry, of Natchitoches; his grandchildren, Ryan Wood, Brett Freyou and Shelby McBride and their spouses; his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Charlie and Tucker and his nieces, Kim Cole and Leah Bush and their spouses. He also had great nephews and great nieces he loved dearly.

A small family celebration of life was held in March where he was surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. He will be missed by all who knew him.
