Lena Mae Spell
It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Lena Mae Spell announce the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on May 31, 2022, at the age of 84.
Funeral services to honor Lena’s life were held at the Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022, with Charles Dodd officiating.
A gathering of family and friends to share memories of Lena was held at the funeral home Wednesday, June 1, 2022, from 3-8 p.m. The family requested that visitation resume Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m.
Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
Lena was born Feb. 13, 1938, to Velior J. Landry and Edith Miller Landry.
Lena was a homemaker and cook for Boudin King for 36 years who dedicated her life to the care of her family, which she adored. She loved cooking and having Sunday dinners with her family and working in her flowerbeds. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lena was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Lena is survived by her three sons, Harold L. Spell (Sheila) of Jennings, Herbert Spell (Brenda) of Jennings and Timmy Spell (Andrea Fruge) of Jennings; her two daughters, Tammy Burgess (Cheries) of Charenton and Elnora Burgess (Edward) of Charenton; her brother, Robert Landry (Earlene) of Roanoke and her 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents, Velior and Edith Landry; her husband, Herbert Harold Spell, Sr.; one great-granddaughter, Adelyn Rose Spell; two sisters, Eunice Landry and Elaine Landry and one brother, Claude Landry.
Those chosen to honor her as pallbearers were Eric Spell, Corey Spell, Bruce Burgess, Mitchell Burgess, Clay Burgess and Bobby Spell.
