Linda Nell Peterson Woods

Celebration of Life services for Linda Nell Peterson Woods, 76, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at Union Baptist Church, with Pastor Hillis Jeffries of DeRidder Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating.

Visiting with family and friends will be held from 9-11 a.m. in the church.

Burial will follow in Parkview Cemetery under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings.

Linda was born in Jennings on Dec. 15, 1945, to the late Jennie and Edmond Peterson. She was the oldest of seven children born to this union.

Linda was baptized into Seventh Day Adventist Church at an early age. During her adolescent years, she attended Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jennings.

At the time of her death, she was a faithful and active member of the DeRidder SDA Church in DeRidder.

During most of her adult career, she was a dedicated homemaker. She attended Southern A&M University in Baton Rouge, where she met and was married Lawrence Woods. To that union five wonderful children were born.

Linda loved serving others and was matriarch to her sisters and brothers. She loved to converse with others, especially her family and friends. She was always available for a conversation and giving advice no matter what time of the day or night. Her home was always the gathering place during holidays and family events. More than loving family and friends, she loved the Lord.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Lawrence E. Woods; parents Jennie Peterson and Edmond Peterson; sister Shelia Jones and brother Kirby Peterson. Leaving to cherish her fond memories are her daughters, Carmen Tanner of Baton Rouge and Latrelle Tellis (Michael) of DeRidder; sons Andrez Woods of Lafayette, Delyle Woods (Anyssa) of Houston and Marlon Woods (Lyndsey) of Dallas, Texas; sisters Cynthia Vincent (James) and Francis Peterson of Raleigh, N.C.; brothers Granville Peterson (Brenda) of Florida, Marcus Peterson (Susan) of Louisiana and Lloyd Peterson (Annie) of Colorado; a host of grandchildren (12); great-grandchildren (3); many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend Mr. Edward Brown of Leesville and “daughter-like” niece, Darcel Dartez of Lake Charles.
