Surrounded by loved ones, Lisa Laray Booth Henry was lifted into heaven on Thursday, August 3, 2023. A devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, godmother, aunt and friend to many, Lisa drew her last breath as sacred and celebrated as her first.

Born on June 26, 1965, in Metairie, Lisa grew up in Welsh. She was a 1983 graduate of Welsh High School and the recipient of the Masonic Honesty and Integrity Award. After earning a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from McNeese State University, Lisa worked as a Special Ed teacher in Southwest La. for thirteen years.

Lisa was known to have an incredible soft spot for children beginning in her teenage years. She regularly gave swimming lessons in the summer months, teaching almost every child in her hometown how to swim. As a perpetual volunteer at the Muscular Dystrophy “Rainbow Camp” and attending as a camper in which she later returned as one of the only two campers ever to become counselors, Lisa was known for her exuberant personality. Lisa became a VIP visitor well into her thirties. There wasn’t a child or baby she couldn’t soothe into laughter, and it wasn’t uncommon to find her with a toddler on her countertop helping her bake a sweet treat.

In 2001, she married her soul mate, Edwin “Scott” Henry. The couple resided in Cameron for four years until Hurricane Rita destroyed their home. They then moved to Lake Charles. In Cameron, she became familiar with the lifestyle of those who live in harm’s way and enjoyed the bounty of the land and sea. It was then that they were blessed with a chance to adopt and raise their son, Kai Laray Henry. Lisa was a gifted cook and an avid collector of antiques and art. She also attracted a vivid assortment of friends who were always welcome in her home. All of whom shared food and drinks, as cooks or guests eager to learn and taste the best in SWLA cuisine.

Lisa is survived by her husband of 22 years, Edwin “Scott” Henry; son, Trinity “Kai” Laray Henry; stepchildren Mary Ellen Henry, James Adam Henry and John Davis Henry (Tandi); grandchildren Bret Alan Daigle, Abbie and Davis Henry; mother, Betty Frugé Carter (Floyd); sister, Bridget Booth McCown (Toby) and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Natho Laray Booth; sister, Debbie Christ Morales and stepdaughter, Sarah Ann Henry.

Visitation was held Sunday, August 6 from 4-8 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles. A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 7 at Our Lady of Seven Dolores, 209 North Adams St., Welsh. Christian interment services were at Highland Memorial Park in Lake Charles. Father Whitney Miller was the officiate.

Pallbearers are Davis Henry, John Henry, Justin McCown, Derrick Morales, Daniel Morales II, Clark McCown and Barry Kelley. Honorary Pallbearers are Kai Henry, Adam Henry, Bret Alan Daigle, Michael McCown, Toby McCown, Daniel Morales, Rob McCown, Gregory Henry, Joe Olivier and Marvin Lasalle.
