LAKE ARTHUR — A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church for Ludrick Schexnider, 91, of Lake Arthur on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2 p.m. with Father Jay Alexius officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites in the Shell Beach Cemetery. Those chosen to honor Ludrick as his pallbearers will be Alix Schexnider, Jason Champagne, Anthony Washington, Colby Guillory, Danielle Broussard and Coi Schexnider. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Schexnider, Nakia Menard and Thadd Champagne.
Visitation will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 31 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. The family requests that visitation resume on Thursday, June 1 at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral mass.
Ludrick was born in Lake Arthur on March 23, 1932, to Joseph Schexnider and Mary Teal Schexnider. Ludrick was called from this life on May 29, 2023, while surrounded by his family. Ludrick worked as a crew boat hand and engineer for Superior Oil. He loved working in his yard, shrimping, hunting and fishing. In his spare time, he would work as a hunting guide, as well as doing woodwork. Ludrick will be remembered for always loving his butterscotch candy. Ludrick was a kind and loving soul who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Ludrick is survived by his four sons, Garland “Teeter” (Delores) Menard, Lionel Schexnider, Bennett (Connie) Schexnider and Jonathan (Ramona) Schexnider, all of Lake Arthur; his daughter, Cheryl Schexnider of Lake Arthur; one brother, Delton Teal (Mary) of Lake Arthur; his two sisters, Rita Rudd of Lake Arthur and Virginia Hughes of Groveton, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 40 great-great grandchildren.
Ludrick is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Schexnider; his beloved wife, Thelma Conner Schexnider; three sons, Daniel, Ricky and Joey Schexnider; two brothers, Felton Duhon and Clifton Schexnider; one sister, Lillian Schexnider and one grandson, Jordan Schexnider.
