JENNINGS — It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we announce to everyone that we are mourning the loss of our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Mary Ellen Callahan. She was called from this life by her Heavenly Father on July 9, 2023, at the age of 69. Mary was born on May 5, 1954, to Edward J. Landry and Mable Mallet Landry in Jennings. She worked as a housekeeper. Mary loved watching her grandsons play baseball and basketball, as well as going shopping with her granddaughters. She was a doting mother to her son, daughter and her grandchildren. Mary loved nothing more than spending time with her sisters, friends and family. Mary was a kind and loving soul who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.
Mary is survived by her husband, Michael Callahan of Jennings; her two children, Scotty LeBlanc (Stina) of Mermentau Cove, Cindy LeBlanc (Ashley) of Mermentau Cove; her six grandchildren, Brandon, Dylan, Jennifer, Paizly, Gavin, Ethan; her two great grandchildren, Crue, Jadd and one great grandson, Brynner on the way; her five sisters, Veronica Faye Miller of Jennings, Nora Landry of Jennings, Dora Vincent of Jennings, Kathy Maynor of Hackberry, Jenny Sonnier of Eunice.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mable Landry; her first husband Prevert Lee LeBlanc; two brothers, Edward Landry, Jr., James “Jimmy” Landry.
Funeral Services to honor Mary’s life will be held at the Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Thursday, July 13 at 11 a.m. with Bishop George McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow in Istre Cemetery. Those chosen to honor her as her pallbearers will be Brandon Boudreaux, Dylan Boudreaux, Gavin LeBlanc, Ethan LeBlanc, Jason Dauphine and Paul Richard. Honorary pallbearers will be Jennifer Boudreaux, Paizly LeBlanc, Crue Boudreaux, Jadd Boudreaux and Peyton Dupuis.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Wednesday, July 12 from 3 - 9 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. The family request that visitation resume on Thursday, July 13 at 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m.
