Raymond ‘Pop’ Joseph Istre

Funeral Services for Raymond Joseph Istre, 80, of Jennings will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019, at 11 a.m., with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home beginning today, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, from 2:30-9:30 p.m. Visitation will resume Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 8 a.m. until the time of his service at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in LeBlanc Cemetery.

Raymond was born in Mermentau on Jan. 24, 1939, to Eddie Istre and Olite Viator Istre. He was called from this earthly life by his Heavenly Father on Feb. 17, 2019. Raymond loved the outdoors, working in his garden and playing music. He also loved his dog “Liberty.” Most of all, Raymond loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Raymond is survived by his three sons, Alex Istre of Jennings, Leonard Lopez (Leila) of Texas and Wilfred “Bo” Douget (Ronda) of Hathaway; his three daughters, Sara Zeno (Lonnie) of Breaux Bridge, Dubie Istre (Alvin) of Kaplan and Cora Gary (Pappy) of Mobile, Ala.; his three brothers, Glenn Istre of Gueydan, Charles Istre of Lake Arthur and Alvin Istre of Kaplan; his two sisters, Shirley Young of Hathaway and Eva Dale Sonnier of Hathaway; his 31 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Olite Istre; his wife, Deann Istre; his brothers, Bob J. Istre, Carlton Istre, Melvin Istre and Robert Eddie Istre; and his sisters, Beverly Dugas, Genevieve Smith, Shirlene Dupre and Erana Martin.

Carrying Raymond to his final resting place will be Will Douget, Ashton Douget, Dwight Douget, Blake Ory, Lonnie Lambert and Alvin Dale Istre, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Zach Sonnier and Lex Istre.
