Ruby Beard LeJeune
JENNINGS — Ruby Beard LeJeune, 98, entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Ruby was born in Liberty County, Texas on September 8, 1925 to William Beard and Amenth Fontenot Beard. She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family, as well as a store owner and keeper. Ruby grew up in Evangeline. In February 1944, Ruby married her first husband, Gaflin LeJeune. Shortly after the end of WWII they moved to Jennings, where they lived for over 50 years until after his death in December of 1997. In October of 2001, she married her second husband, Clinton LaVergne, and moved to Mauriceville, Texas until his death in April of 2019. Ruby then moved to Fulshear, Texas with her son, Frederic and his wife, Theresa. Throughout her life Ruby loved to play bingo, sew, quilt and garden. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends making memories. Ruby was a kind and loving person who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.
Ruby is survived by her three sons, Carlton (Randa), Ronald (Patricia) and Frederic (Theresa); as well as eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and two great-great-great grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, William and Amenth Beard; her first husband, Gaflin J. LeJeune; her second husband Clinton J. LaVergne; her four brothers; two sisters; one son, Eldon; one grandchild, Tina Benoit and two daughters-in-law, Christine and Jacqueline.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings beginning on Friday, December 8 from 4-8 p.m. Her visitation will resume of Saturday, December 9 from 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11 a.m.
Funeral services to honor Ruby’s life will be held at the Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Brother Mike Sullivan of First Christian Church in Orangefield, Texas officiating. Ruby will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery.
