Russell Joseph Doucet

A Mass of Christian burial for Russell Joseph Doucet, 93, of Jennings will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2023, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, with Father Keith Pellerin officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home beginning Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 2-8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m.

The family requests that visitation resume Monday, April 3, 2023, from 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass.

Russell will be laid to rest in Miller Cemetery next to his family that went before him.

Russell was born in Jennings on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 1929, to Louis Doucet and Arece Miller Doucet and he was called from this life on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Russell worked as a custodial engineer, a job he loved. He also loved being outdoors tending to his garden.

Russell enjoyed woodworking, as well as spending time with his family and friends. Russell was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Russell is survived by his son, Gerald Doucet (Lisa) of Roanoke; his daughters, Lois Palmer (Terry) of Lawrenceville, Ga., Regina Jayne (Jay) Clarks Summit, Penn., Karen Doucet of Iowa and Bertha Miller of Basile; his nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Arece Doucet; his son, Thomas Doucet and his brother, Mervin Doucet.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Russell request that donations be made to the American Cancer Foundation in his name.
