Thelma Jean Conner Schexnider
LAKE ARTHUR - A Mass of Christian burial for Thelma Jean Conner Schexnider, 84, of Lake Arthur was held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 at 2 p.m.
A gathering of family and friends was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, from 1:30-9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation resumed Saturday form 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass.
Thelma was laid to rest in Shell Beach Cemetery following her funeral mass.
Thelma was born in Lake Arthur on Jan. 22, 1936, to Alex Conner, Sr., and Hilda Trahan. She was called to her Heavenly Father on Sept. 24, 2020, while surrounded by her loving family. Thelma was a homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She loved to cook, sew, dance, work in her yard and decorate for Christmas. Thelma also loved going to church. She was a member of the Ladies Alter Society and a Lay Minister. Thelma was a kind and loving person and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Thelma is survived by her beloved husband, Ludrick Schexnider of Lake Arthur; her four sons, Garland “Teeter” (Delores) Menard of Lake Arthur, Lionel Schexnider of Lake Arthur, Bennett (Connie) Schexnider of Lake Arthur and Jonathan (Ramona) Schexnider of Lake Arthur; her daughter, Cheryl Schexnider of Lake Arthur; her two brothers, Michael (Judy) Conner of Lake Arthur and Terry Conner of Lake Arthur; her four sisters, Lucille (L.J.) LeJeune of Jennings, Earline Doucet of Roanoke, Margie Buermann of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and Barbara Whitman of Lake Arthur; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Thelma now rests in Heaven with her parents, Alex and Hilda Conner, Sr.; three sons, Daniel Schexnider, Ricky Schexnider and Joey Schexnider; five brothers, Alex Conner, Jr., Douglas Conner, Emery Conner, Ted Conner and Donald Conner; two sisters, Betty Price and Judy Istre; and her grandson, Jordan Schexnider.
Those chosen to honor Thelma as her pallbearers were Nakia Menard, Alix Schexnider, Anthony Washington, Thadd Champagne, Jason Chamagne and Shane Schexnider.
Honorary pallbearers were Lonnie Schexnider and Colby Guillory.
