Wendell James Lopez
Funeral services for Wendell James Lopez, 57, of Gotts Cove will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at 2 p.m., with Father Charles McMillin and Bro. James Townley officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home today, Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, beginning at 5 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m., and continuing until 10 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, from 8 a.m. until the time of his service at 2 p.m.
Burial will follow in Gotts Cove Cemetery.
Wendell was born in Jennings on Dec. 14, 1962, to Edward Lopez and Joyce Gatte Lopez. He was called from this earthly life by his Heavenly Father on Jan. 27, 2020.
Wendell worked as a welder-fabricator. He loved the outdoors, gardening, shooting pool and football. He was an avid fan of LSU and New Orleans Saints. Most of all, Wendell loved spending time with all of his family and the extended Gatte family. He was known as “Paw-Paw” and “Nonc Wen.” He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Shonda G. Lopez of Gotts Cove; his son, Allen Lopez (Sarah) of Hathaway; his four grandchildren, Emma, Luke, Ethan and Logan; his sister, Jeanne Lopez of Hathaway; his in-laws, Danny and Elsie Gatte of Gotts Cove and Anita Gatte of Gotts Cove; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Joyce Lopez.
Those chosen to honor Wendell as his pallbearers are Tim Gatte, Braydie Gatte, Kyler Gatte, Kyndal Gatte, Blaze Phillips, Harley Duhon and Tyler Credeur.
Honorary pallbearers will be Toby Hoyt and Larry Breaux.
