Wilda Mary (Woods) Trahan
Mrs. Wilda Mary (Woods) Trahan, 91, a wonderful wife of 70 years to Louis Trahan, Jr., and a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many died on Oct. 30, 2020, in her home surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur, with Rev. Jay Alexius officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, from 2:30-9 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Fridayg.
Burial will be in Andrus Cove Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.
The family asks that you respect social distancing and masks are requested for the visitation and funeral service.
Mrs. Wilda was a lifelong resident of Gueydan and a graduate of Gueydan High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Southwest Louisiana.
A retired teacher and homemaker, she was a member of our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She served as former member of the Church Parish Council and participated in the “Come Lord Jesus Program.” She served on the Church Fair Committee as Gumbo Chairperson for 40 years and was a chairperson of the food committee which provides food for bereaved families.
She was a faithful supporter of St. Maria Goretti School, even teaching at the school for several years.
She has been a member of the Altar Society for well over 50 years. Through those years, she served in the capacity of every office and has served on various other committees in the church.
She was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors for the Fritz Lang Scholarship Foundation in May of 2003.
The CDA Court Fr. Charles Kirk No. 1573 presented her the Mother of the Year Award in May of 2005. In life, Wilda Trahan was an example of kind, selfless, love that always sought the best for others. She loved life and being with her family. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She preceded her husband, Louis Trahan, Jr., of Gueydan, in death. He followed her into the next life two days later.
Survivors include one daughter, Lenora Menard (Larry) of New Iberia; seven sons, Louis Keith (Margaret) of Lafayette, James Neal (Marie) of Roanoke, Charles Reed (Bernadine) of Butte La Rose, Anthony Ross (Celeste) of New Iberia, Aaron Seth (Elizabeth) of Lake Charles, James Neal (Marie) of Roanoke, Ivan Jess (Sandra) of Leesville and Joel Evan (Dharma) of Gueydan; one sister and brother-in-law, Vernice and TooTee Marceaux of Jennings; 32 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.
Wilda was preceded in death by her parents, Proford and Olydia Monceaux Woods.
