Spaces available in free LDWF boating education course
LAKE ARTHUR - There are currently 50 open spots in a free boaters education course being held courtesy of the boat club here.
This course will be held Saturday, July 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lake Arthur Boat Club clubhouse, located at 123 Daigle Road in Gueydan.
Zach Meche of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will teach the course. Jambalaya and drinks will be available for purchase during the course.
Louisiana law requires that all boaters born after Jan. 1, 1984, must complete a boating education course and carry proof of completion to operate a motorboat in excess of 10 horsepower.
The person may operate the boat if accompanied by someone ove 18 years of age who, i required, has completed the course. The minimum age for boater education certification in Louisian is 10 years old. The cours is open to people younge than 10 but they are no eligible to be certified, and must retake the course fo certification when the reach 10 years or older.
Angela Benson, a Lak Arthur Boat Club board member, said this cours would be an informa tive community outreach opportunity.
“The club has just been trying to reach out, d more for the children and the community,” she said
