James Arthur ‘Doodle’ Guthrie, Jr.

EVANGELINE - Funeral services for Mr. James Arthur “Doodle” Guthrie, Jr., 77, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, in Hope Church in Evangeline, with Bro. Thomas Patterson officiating.

Visitation will be held in Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings from 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, and will continue Thursday at the church from 8 a.m. until time of services.

Burial will be in Bon Pasteur Cemetery in Welsh.

Mr. Guthrie passed away at 4:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, in Harbor Hospice.

Mr. Guthrie was a lifelong resident of Jennings and served in the U.S. Marines. He worked in the plants in Texas. He loved to fish. He was faithful to his church, he loved God and never met a stranger.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Johnson Guthrie of Jennings; six daughters, Monica (Brent) Troldad of Minnesota, Tamara (David) of Lafayette, and Angela Daigle, Debra Bouley, Jennifer Dufrene and Tracy Bouley, all of Jennings; one son, Stanley (Tonya) Bouley of Evangeline; one sister, Betty Broussard of Lafayette; one brother, Ricky (Charlotte) Guthrie of Lafayette; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur and Melba Clement Guthrie, Sr.; and one grandson, Saje Bouley.
