It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Shirley Chavis announces her passing from this life on Jan. 13, 2020, at the age of 79.

Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Worship Center in Jennings Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Terry Lee officiating.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, from 9 a.m. until the time of her service.

Burial will follow in Our Lady of Perpetual Care Cemetery.

Shirley was born in Jennings to Sam Jacko and Lorena Young Jacko on Dec. 27, 1940. She worked as a barber, a jobshe loved very much. Shirley also loved her Lord, praying and working as a Sunday school teacher, spreading the word of the gospel. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, shopping and visiting on the phone. Above all, Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Louis Chavis of Jennings; sons, Michael Heard of Ruston and Louis Chavis III of Jennings; daughter, Angela (Derrick) Branch of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Quimesha Hard, Keisha Heard and Walter Ceaser, Jr.; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Bettye (Clarence) Levy of Jennings; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lorena Y. Jacko; sisters, Ida Bell Victorian and Margaret Lee; and brother, William Jones.

Carrying Shirley to her final resting place will be Cory Cormier, Edwin Ray, Walter Ceaser, Jr., Michael Heard, Kenderick Morgan, and Derrick Branch. Honorary Pallbearers will be Louis Chavis III, Willie Williams, Cody Cormier, Michael Levy, Dwayne Guidry, and Roderick Lee.
