A Mass of Christian burial for Sgt. Rogers Richard, 93, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Jennings, with Reverend Jude Fernando officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, from 9 a.m. until time of his mass, with a rosary recited at 10 a.m.
Rogers will be laid to rest in Parkview Cemetery with Full Military Rites.
Sgt. Rogers Richard, 93 was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Arnaudville to the late Eva Marie Dartez and Nema Richard.
He peacefully transitioned to everlasting rest as God called him home Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Rogers was drafted by the United States Army where he proudly served his country and was stationed in the Philippines. He received many medals, including the National Defense Service Medal. Upon being honorably discharged from the United States Army, he settled in Jennings with his family. He was employed with Stewart and Landry Construction Company for more than 40 years until his retirement.
Rogers was baptized in his Catholic faith and was a very faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Holy Name Society and a member of Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Elderly Affairs Program.
Rogers was a very giving person. He enjoyed attending church, family gatherings and being in the company of his family and enjoyed talking about the Lord and leading the conversations. His loving and caring spirit will continue to shine through all of those who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his children, two sons, Robert Richard of Jennings and Lloyd “Belinda” Richard of Breaux Bridge and one daughter, Brenda “Samuel” Stewart of Houston, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Rogers now rejoices in heaven with his parents, Eva M. Dartez and Nema Richard; his loving wife, Helen Castille Richard; one sister, Wilda Richard; and three brothers, Sanders “Enola” Richard, Chester “Ella” Richard and Numas “Eva” Richard.
