E.R. “Red” Giles
LAKE ARTHUR – Funeral services for E.R. “Red” Giles, 91, of Lake Arthur were held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur at 2 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2021, with Pat Deshotel officiating.
A gathering of family and friends was held at the funeral home Monday, May 17, 2021, from 10 a.m. until the time of his service at 2 p.m.
Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery.
Red was born Jan. 20, 1930, to J.W. Giles and Jewell King Giles. He was called from this earthly life by his Heavenly Father on May 12, 2021.
He proudly served our country in the United States Marines. Red was a devoted public servant; he loved his community and was dedicated to improving the lives of the citizens of Lake Arthur. He served as Mayor for 24 1/2 years. He was a member of Jeff Davis Parish Landfill Commission. He was also the longtime owner of The Red Rose Lounge in Lake Arthur, as well as the owner of Red’s Novelty.
Red was a man of few words, but he was sincere and genuine at heart. He was a man of pride, integrity and, above all, honesty.
Most of all, Red loved spending time with his family. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Red is survived by his wife of 51 years, Delta Broussard Giles of Lake Arthur; his daughters, Betty Giles of Pineville, Sarah Kennedy (Mack) of Moss Bluff and Eva Poole (Jimmy) of Lake Arthur; nine grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.
Red was preceded in death by his son, Greg Giles; and his daughter, Desra Giles.
Those chosen to honor Red as his pallbearers were Rhett Guidry, Willis Fontenot, Travis Duhon, Michael Poole, Marcus Poole and Randy Kennedy.
