Mr. Donald Ray “Pete” Dronet, 69, of Lafayette passed away July 16, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Services for Pete were held Monday July 19, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, with Father Keith Pellerin officiating.

Visitation was held Sunday July 18, 2021, in Miguez Funeral Home Chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation resumed Monday until the time of service.

Burial will be in Andrus Cove Cemetery.

Pete was born Nov. 16, 1951, in Crowley to Breakness and Mary Simon Dronet. He was a resident of Lafayette.

He began his oilfield career at the age of 16 and retired after 45 years as a drilling superintendent with Shell Oil Company. Throughout his career, he has been a part of several major projects from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada. He was very proud of his accomplishments as a drilling superintendent. He remained a mentor and friend to everyone that worked with him even after retirement.

Pete enjoyed being outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and golfing. He loved to play cards and spend time with his loving family, grandchildren, and his dog, Gizmeaux. His grandchildren were a huge part of his life and he enjoyed attending every function that they were involved in.

He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Peggy Deroussel Dronet; daughters, Angie Grunewald and Tracey (Heather) Dronet, both of Denham Springs; sons, Buff (Kelly) Dronet of Hathaway and Donovan Dronet of Baton Rouge; stepdaughters, Mandy (Paul) Benoit of Maurice and Natalie (Robbey Himel) Comeaux of Lafayette; sisters, Shirlene Lanthier and Verline (Ricky)Hanks, both of Crowley; 17 grandchildren, Alicia, Shelby, Nicholas, Amber, Shelby, Payton, Tyler, Conner, Cade, Grace, Morgan, Aly, Evan, Maverick, Nolan, Dustin and Keagan.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Jeanelle Broussard Dronet; sister, Virginia Brown; and two grandchildren, Carlee Jeanelle Grunewald and Caleb Michael Grunewald.

Pallbearers will be Chad Benoit, Travis Broussard, Payton Dronet, Mark Lanthier, Jason Lanthier and Stanley Jr. Brown.
