Melia Marie Duhon
LAKE ARTHUR — Melia Marie Duhon, 81, passed away peacefully Nov. 10, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
A mass of Christian burial was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Arthur, with Father Jay Alexius officiating.
Visitation began Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, from 1-8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. at Miguez Funeral Home in Lake Arthur. Visitation resumed Tuesday, from 8 a.m. until the time to leave for church.
Burial followed in Andrus Cove Cemetery.
Marie was born Oct. 7, 1940, in Lake Arthur to David “Pete” and Elise Benoit Duhon. She was a lifelong resident of Lake Arthur.
Marie was a loving mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother. She loved gathering with her family and friends, especially with her cousin Edith Trahan and the neighborhood friends, for afternoon barbecue and bonfires.
She was part of LAHS band boosters from 1975-1980. She enjoyed traveling with the band. She loved all sports, especially the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. She enjoyed traveling, her beloved dog/companion, Lucy, and sleepovers with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She also enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends at Alton and Gloria’s building located in downtown Lake Arthur. She loved to dance and listen to Zydeco music. She took great pride in her appearance.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Ladies Alter Society. She was also a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
Ms. Marie is survived by her son, Brian (Stori) O’Blanc of Lake Arthur; her daughter, Cathy (Chuck) Young of Lafayette; grandchildren, Philip Ray Thibodeaux, II, Kendalyn (Sleighton) Hebert and Brian O’Blanc, Jr.; and her great-grandchildren, Abigail Shuey, Baelyr Thibodeaux, Ellie Hebert, Braxton Thibodeaux and Guy Dean Hebert.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Nora Mae Racca; her two brothers, Paul and Ellsworth “Wordy” Duhon; her daughter, Lynette O’Blanc; her nieces, Cynthia Marceaux Gibson and Allison Duhon; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Marceaux.
Pallbearers were Philip Thibodeaux, II, Sleighton Hebert, Milton O’Blanc, Jr., Thad Scholtz, Matthew Duhon and Baelyr Thibodeaux.
Honorary pallbearers were Abigail Shuey, Ellie Hebert, Braxton Thibodeaux and Guy Hebert.
