LAKE ARTHUR — The family and friends of Rose Gary Craig are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on Feb. 6, 2022, at the age of 70.
Funeral Services for Rose Gary Craig, 70, of Jennings will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 10. 2022, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Lake Arthur.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning today, Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, from 3 p.m. until the time of her funeral service at noon on Thursday. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.
Rose was born in Jefferson Davis Parish to Anthony Gary and Nora Courts on June 8, 1951.
She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family. Rose was a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW. She was an avid gardener and loved growing fruits, vegetables and flowers to share with all her friends and family. She was passionately self-sufficient and took pride and great enjoyment from learning and practicing a self-sustaining lifestyle. Rose loved to cook, as well as host holiday gatherings. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Craig of Lake Arthur; her two stepchildren, George Craig (Risa) of Midland, Texas, and Shelly Magness (Kirk) of Odessa, Texas; her brother, Harry Gary (Wanda) of Pitkin; her sisters, Ozite Hebert of Welsh and Marie Lou Sonnier of Lake Arthur; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Nora Courts and Anthony Gary; her husband, George Craig, Sr.; her brother, Leonard “L.J.” Gary; her brothers-in-law, Vernice Hebert, Sr., and Mason Sonnier; her sister, Irma Gary; her niece, Melinda Hebert; her nephew, Chad Gary; and her great-niece, Ashley Durio.
Those chosen to honor Rose as her pallbearers will be Grant Broussard, II, Colin Shaw, George Derise, Carl Sonnier, Vernice Hebert, Jr. and Garrett Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Gautreaux and Craig Broussard.
