Celebration of Life services for Ruthie Mae Johnson, 74, of Jennings were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, in the church chapel at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, located at 819 N. State Street in Jennings, with Minister Betty Etienne officiating. Visiting was held from 9-11 a.m. in the chapel.
Burial was held in Benevolent Cemetery in Jennings under the direction of Semien-Lewis Mortuary of Jennings.
Ruthie attended elementary and high school in Jennings. Pursing further education, she joined the Job Corp in McKinley, Texas, finishing in welding.
Ruthie Mae Johnson was born on July 16, 1948, in Jennings. She departed this life on November 5, 2022. She was a member of Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jennings and served as treasurer.
Ruthie was employed at Lee Vac Shipyard in Mermentau as a certified welder. Ruthie loved to cook and bake, always willing to share her counties with all tongues, nationalities and creeds. Her home was a haven of refuge, where many less fortunate were welcome. So caring, warm and loving. Ruthie was God’s angel with a heart of gold.
Ruthie leaves to cherish her memories one son, Aurthur Johnson of Jennings; daughter Charlynn Johnson of Jennings; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Shirley, Florence of Lafayette, Mary Babineaux of Crowley and Betty Johnson of Jennings; aunt Gloria Chevis; devoted nieces, Debra Walker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Sondra Boutte of Jennings and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Mary and Norris Johnson, Sr.; son Marlon Johnson; sister Martha Johnson Boutte and brother Norris Johnson, Jr.
