Mary Beth Pickett Geesey
A Mass of Christian Burial was officiated by Fr. Marshall Boulet at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley honoring the life of Mary Beth Pickett Geesey, 71, who passed away peacefully at her residence on Nov. 17, 2022.
The family requested visiting hours to be held at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley on Monday from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with a rosary recited at 11:30 a.m.
Mary Beth was a native of Jennings and a resident of Crowley. She was a kind and gentle person with strong faith. After graduating from McNeese State University, she became a dedicated teacher for many years where she touched so many lives at South Crowley Elementary, Branch Elementary and Redemptorist Elementary. She was a proud member of professional teaching organizations Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Delta Kappa.
Mary Beth cherished time with her family and made their home a gathering place for family functions and holidays. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and spoiled her fur babies. The first grandchild named the grandparents, so Mary Beth fondly became their EMME. Through her thoughtfully curated gifts and celebrations she made ordinary things special in a random whimsical fun way.
Her kind, compassionate, empathetic, giving nature blessed family, as well as strangers.
She never lost her love of prose and reading. Her Pokeno group was a treasured time that she spent with friends. She enjoyed being in the Three Ten Club and was happy to donate time working in Miss Helen’s soup kitchen.
She is survived by her husband and soulmate of 32 years, Roy Geesey of Crowley; three children, Lauren G. Hurley and her husband James of Canonsburg, Penn., Jason Shelton and his wife Leilen of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Brett Geesey and his wife Amber of Lafayette; three siblings, Cathy P. Mayfield of Jennings, Carol P. Brown of Spring, Texas, and Joel Pickett of Lake Charles; sister-in-law Jeanette Pickett of Lake Charles; brother-inlaw Don Daigle of Jennings; seven grandchildren, Sydney, Myles, Max, Parker, Brayden, Rhett, and Elizabeth and her fur baby, Milo.
Mary Beth is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Dorothy LeBlanc Pickett; one sister, Dorothy “Cookie” Daigle, one brother, Richard Pickett; brother-in-law Joe Mayfield and her in-laws, George and Barbara Toon Geesey.
Pallbearers were Joel Pickett, Jordan Pickett, Jason Richard, Jax Harrington, Max Geesey and Parker Geesey.
Mary Beth’s family would like to thank all the nurses, staff and doctors who helped with her care. Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, Acadia Extended Care Hospital, St Martin Hospital, UHC, and Lamm Hospice all gave her professional and compassionate care to enable her to fulfill her wish to get back home from this long hard journey. She displayed an inner strength to be admired. We also thank Cathy for her sincere, faithful and loving care throughout her illness.
