Buford James ‘Butch’ McFarlain
Buford James “Butch” McFarlain passed away quietly at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings on Feb. 1, 2023.
Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, from 4-8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings.
Visitation resumed Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, from 8 a.m. until the funeral procession departs for the church service. The church service was held at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Evangeline.
Burial was in St. Jules Cemetery in Tee Mamou under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home.
ButchisthesonofthelateErwinandAudreyMcFarlain.He attended Evangeline Elementary and Iota High School. He was a great fan of Iota High athletic teams.
After leaving school, he worked in the oilfield business, working in drilling and pipeline operations. He served honorable in the United States Army from 1966 until 1968, and he was proud to be a veteran.
He was a dedicated member of both St. Joseph Parish in Evangeline and St. Jules Parish in Tee Mamou. As a member of those parishes, he was involved in the Come Lord Jesus Scripture Study groups and other scripture study initiatives offered by his church parishes. He also took part in rosary recitation groups. He participated in the Faith Renewal program, an activity he really enjoyed. He assisted the ladies of St. Joseph Parish in the preparation of their famous syrup pies. He was an active contributing member of Knights of Columbus Council 4906 in Evangeline, and as a member of that organization he was involved in all their fundraising and service-related activities.
He is survived by his brothers, John (wife Sue), Glenn (wife Gayle), Marcus (wife June), Bryan, Dwight (wife Alice) and Randy. He was loved and respected by all his nieces and nephews. He was always willing to offer assistance to all members of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Basal.
The McFarlain family is grateful to the staff of Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home and Lamb Family Care for the wonderful care they rendered to Butch.
