JENNINGS — Hubert L. “Hubby” Clement, Jr., passed away on May 24, 2023, at his home in Evangeline.

A memorial visitation of family and friends will be held at Miguez Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 9 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Southwest Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors.

The wishes of cremation took place under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Hubby was born on October 20, 1951, in Rayne, son of the late Hubert L. Clement, Sr., of Evangeline, and the late Patty Barnett Clement of Roanoke. He lived for many years in Welsh and in Evangeline for the final years of his life. Hubby was the first-born of five children. He was a 1969 graduate of Jennings High School. After graduating, Hubby worked for the 7up Bottling Co. in Jennings. Then on March 27, 1970, he enlisted and was inducted into the U.S. Army in New Orleans. He was assigned to Company D 1 Battalion in Fort Polk, where he received Basic Training. He received Advanced Infantry Training at Quartermaster School in Fort Lee, Va., where he was also trained as a welder. He served 21 months overseas in Vietnam, assigned to the Long Binh Post with the 29 General Support Group, Headquarters Company 266 Supply and Service Battalion (Direct Service), where he built security doors and gates, installed machine gun mounts in the guard towers and worked Bunker Line guard duty.

After completing his tour of duty in Vietnam, Hubby served the remainder of his enlistment in the US Army Reserve with the Louisiana National Guard 156 Infantry, Jennings, and received an honorable discharge for his military service, having attained the rank of Spc. 4 Class E-4. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. After his discharge, Hubby settled in Welsh where he worked for McMillin’s Furniture Store and Welsh Equipment Company. He worked many years at Frank’s Engine Service in Roanoke, then went to work in Jennings for Hebert & Lebleu, Gulf Coast AutoPlex and Sterling Automotive, where he was employed as a Service Porter up to the time of his passing.

Hubby had a beautiful singing voice and when he lived in Welsh, as a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, he was a Cantor and sang for Communion and at funerals. In 2016, he moved to Evangeline, became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he served faithfully as a Cantor and continued to sing during Communion and at funerals. For many years, in his spare time, Hubby was a puppeteer and made personalized puppet show videos for birthdays and special occasions with his unique family of puppets.

Hubby was proud of his country and of his military service and was never ashamed to display the American Flag or his collection of Vietnam memorabilia. Hubby was happy and charming, always smiling.

If you were his friend, and he had many, you were considered a part of his family. He left his mark on the hearts of so many acquaintances, friends and family members, he will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Kathy Clement-Thibeaux of Roanoke, and Jeanece Clement-Doucet of Welsh; one brother, Laurent Donald “Donnie” Clement, of Evangeline; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Hubby was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marion Grace Clement.
