In 1959, he married the love of his life, Bettye Jacko, and to this union one child was born.

Clarence began his career as a veterinarian assistant at Welsh Veterinarian Hospital until being hired at ExxonMobil where he worked until his retirement in 1989. He then enjoyed 36 years of traveling and spending quality time with the love of his life.

Once retired, he was elected to the position of city councilman of District A #5, where he spent 16 years advocating for the residents of the south side. He would refer to it as “Fighting for What’s Right!” For those 16 years, he made every effort possible to advance his community by becoming a “Champion of Civil Rights.”

During his years as city councilman, he made many improvements in the community such as obtaining streetlights for poorly lit areas, completed Garage Alley Project by having it hard surfaced along with improving the drainage infrastructure and ensured that there was a park in his own Lincoln Heights neighborhood for the children who live there. He was also successful in procuring the maintenance of the cemeteries in District A.

Duck was a man about town always willing and ready to offer his time and resources. He exemplified many selfless acts such as the community veterinarian, the chef specializing in frying turkeys for Thanksgiving and the community Uber driver just to name a few. All these things were done out of the kindness of his heart because of his love for the people in his community.

Clarence was a faithful member and served numerous years at Immanuel Worship Center doing all the things he loved as he served God and his church family. He was the van driver, the lawn keeper and a general “Mr. Fix It.” He was also the creator of what’s known to many as “Duck Juice” that he made not only at church but for all occasions. He was affectionately known by his family as “The Church Overseer.”

In October of 2023, his body began to weaken. He could no longer drive his beloved van around town, visit his friends or assist those that he so loved to help. Despite this set back, he remained jovial and never lost his quick wit.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 65 years Bettye; daughter Deidra (Raymond) Bates of Manvel, Texas; daughter II- Lori (Kendrick) Morgan of Iowa Colony, Texas; his grandson Michael Levy of Houston, Texas; two great-granddaughters Jakari Cox of Dallas, Texas and Solace Levy of Richmond, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Visitation is from 9-11 a.m. in Immanuel Worship Center with funeral to follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025. Burial will be in Peterson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Mortuary Center of SWLA.

Clarence “Duck” Levy, Jr. earned his heavenly wings on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 peacefully at home.

He was born on June 7, 1930 to Clarence Levy, Sr., and Viola Collins-Levy both of Roanoke. His passion in life was playing baseball, coaching, inspiring young men in the community, league bowling and cooking.
