60 MPH speed limit to be enforced on I-10

Jennings Police Department will be enforcing a 60 mph speed limit on Interstate 10 while the Department of Transportation and Development installs cable barriers in the highway median.
Interim police chief Danny Semmes said the safety of construction workers is a priority, especially since one worker was killed two weeks ago when the ATV he was using to cross the roadway was struck by a vehicle.
Semmes cautioned drivers to exercise safety while traveling in the construction area.
He also reminded the public that traffic violations committed within a construction zone incur fines double what drivers normally face.
