Officials start process to repair Beaufort Bridge
A bridge in Welsh that was closed this week due to structural damage will soon see repairs.
Jeff Davis Police Jurors opened up the project for bids and design plans for the repair of the Beaufort Street bridge in Welsh at their weekly meeting on Wednesday.
Dist. 7 Juror Steve Eastman said the bridge was closed Tuesday after local officials deemed it unsafe for drivers.
“We just want to get the process started,” he said.
According to Policy Jury President Donald Woods, the bridge is impassable, but that there are several other routes for residents to use while the bridge is being repaired.
The cost of the repairs will be divided into thirds between the parish, the Town of Welsh and the Welsh Gravity Drainage District.
Bids on the project will be reviewed at next weeks meeting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25. The meeting will take place at the Police Jury Meeting Room of the Sidney Briscoe Jr. Building next to the parish courthouse in Jennings.
