Marijuana found in dog kennel

Investigators are currently looking for a suspect who had been hiding over a pound of high-quality marijuana in a dog kennel behind an abandoned residence in Jennings.

According to Jennings Police Department Chief Danny Semmes, on August 3, officers recovered a large amount of high-grade marijuana and numerous vaporizer cartridges at a residence on East Wood Street.

Semmes said officers were dispatched to the abandoned residence after reports were made that a suspect was involved in an altercation and that shots were fired before the suspect fled the scene.

“There was a report of shots fired and a subject with a gun, who was in a large fight,” Semmes said.

A search was completed at the abandoned residence, where officers observed a jar containing a pound and a half of hydroponic marijuana and around 40 vaporizer cartridges being stored in a dog kennel at the rear of the residence, according to Semmes.

Semmes said that the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect is still at large.

“Officers are still looking for the suspect that may have been in possession of the gun,” Semmes said. “We spoke to witnesses in the area who were uncooperative or unable to give us any information on the subject.”

The jar used to store the marijuana was sent off for DNA testing. Semmes said he believes that DNA test will reveal the identity of the suspect.

“Once the DNA tests come back on the jar and the suspect is identified, we will issue a warrant for their arrest,” Semmes said.
