LAKE ARTHUR - Funeral services for Mr. Walter Dugas, 81, of Lake Arthur were held Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with Father Roland Vaughn officiating.

Visitation began Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at 2 p.m. and continued until 9 p.m. A Cursillo rosary was held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation continued Monday morning from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Burial followed in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Thornwell under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Mr. Dugas was born in Vermilion parish to Nelson and Rose Guidry Dugas. As a youngster, he moved to Thornwell and graduated from Welsh High School in 1955 and then attended LSU. He married Corinna LeGros in 1958. He was a manager at Thornwell Warehouse for over 30 years. He was a faithful Catholic and made Cursillo No. 31.

Mr. Dugas loved to garden, make sausage, cook and play cards. He loved his family and friends and always greeted everyone he met. He was a faithful follower of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved his faithful companion, his dog Wallace.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Corinna LeGros Dugas; daughters, Tina (Vernon) Deshotel of LeBleu Settlement, Marcella (Jim) Jarrell of St. Francisville, Mattie (Johnnie) Brassell of Lacassine and Muriel Moore of Lacassine; sons, Walter “Butch” (Daisy) Dugas, Jr. of Lake Arthur, Buddy (Rachel) Dugas of Thornwell, Dominic (Tina) Dugas of Lacassine and Jonathan “Choe” Gary of Lake Arthur; sisters, Juanita David of Lake Arthur, Isabelle Durrett of Lake Charles,Sara Monceaux of Lake Arthur, Louella Dugas of Lake Arthur; Dianne Dugas of Lake Arthur; brothers, Earl Dugas of Welsh and Chester Dugas of Jennings; 22 grand-children; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dugas was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Rose Guidry Dugas; a sister, Mary Grace Gaspard; a brother, Dallas Dugas; and a son-in-law, Richard Moore.

Pallbearers were Benjamin Dugas, Justin Moore, Arial Hulin, Sgt. Trey Jarrell, William “Billy” Dugas and Kinzie Brassell.

Honorary pallbearers were Hilary Gordon, Brooks Dugas, Grant Deshotel, Thomas Jarrell and Sedgie Moore.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Medical Research Group and The American Heart Association in his honor.
