A program is now collecting gifts for foster children in the region. Donated gifts can help put a smile on these children’s faces for Christmas.

The Louisiana Heart Gallery is gathering gifts for the children who are awaiting adoption.

“The program serves children whose parents have lost their parental rights,” said Lake Charles Region Director Jade Smith. “Their ages range from 5-17. Some are in foster homes and some are in group homes.”

The Lake Charles region consists of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jeff Davis parishes. Smith said there are approximately 24 group homes throughout the state.

For those who would like to donate gifts to these children, email lhg.christmasjoyproject@hpserve.org. Smith said the wish lists of what the children would like to receive will be provided and participants can purchase the gifts.

“Once the email, they will need to designate which region they would like to work with,” said Smith. “The gifts don’t necessarily have to go to children in our region, they can benefit any child across the state.”

The gifts should be wrapped and a personal card or note can be included. The deadline to donate gifts will be Saturday, Dec.15.

Smith said the Louisiana Heart Gallery travels to churches, street fairs and other events with a photo display of the children who are available for adoption in the State of Louisiana.

“We will visit any organization that will have us. We try to do this at least twice a month, sometimes more. We are just trying to help spread the word and help these sweet babies find their forever homes,” said Smith.

For those churches, organizations or other planned events that would like to have the display at their function, Smith said to send an email to LHG.lakecharles@hpserve.org or call her at (337) 425-7466.
